I’ve been working recently with a site which has huge potential for social sharing as a traffic source and as such I’ve obviously been sniffing around their main competitors to see what’s working for them. There’s been much talk about Pinterest as a potential traffic source, econsultancy also wrote a piece on pinterest driving more sales than Facebook, but until now I’ve never actually gotten that involved. I guess many of you will be the same.
One of the first things I stumbled upon was the ability to easily find what’s being pinned on from your competitors sites using this URL
Just substitute “etsy.com” for your competitors domain and you can get a great view of what’s being pinned, and by whom…
Whilst this is quite clearly pretty great it didn’t take long before I got bored of copying and pasting competitors domain names into a new window. On the other hand, I was also looking at their Google+ presence also using AJ Kohn’s fantastic Ripples Bookmarklet…..hmmm I thought…..I wonder if I (who hasn’t coded for 10 years) could create a bookmarklet (my first ever) to speed up the process…
lazy interested in making your pinterest competitor analysis that little bit quicker simply drag the link to your bookmarks bar to give you the ability to see what’s being pinned from any domain at the touch of a button:
I’d love to hear if you find it useful, I certainly have so far. I was actually really surprised about the diverse nature of sites which are having things pinned, in all kind of industries. Now that it’s just one click to look behind the curtain I’m checking out a lot more sites.
If you find any issues with the code or need help then I’m sorry but I’m probably not going to be able to help!
